The one time convent Hotel les Ursulines has left its vestiges in the form of a
handsome harmonious architecture, a shrine in itself. It is located in the heart
of the old quartier of the city of Autun, walking distance to the cathedral. At
Hotel les Ursulines, from carpets to statues, from tapestries to delicacies, the
property fine tunes every chord in a setting of French gardens and the sight of
the nearby mountains of Morvan. The structure of the Hotel les Ursulines is
rather simple in itself; the rooms are comfortable but not luxurious. The ones
called cellules were given this name, because these were the original nun cells
(the rooms of the nuns). There is a particular characteristic about the cellules,
and that is that the windows are small and so high, that you can not look out.
These windows were built this way on purpose, so neither could the nuns look to
the outside world, nor could anyone from the outside intrude into their privacy.
Regardless of this peculiarity, the cellules are rooms in the deluxe category,
non-smoking and air conditioned. The Hotel les Ursulines is well-known for the
restaurant, very nice atmosphere, good food and good service. |
