La Ferme Saint Simeon is an old farmhouse the focal point of this 17th-century
half-timbered slate hotel, one of Normandy's most elegant inns, which lies in
the hills above Honfleur, about 1.5 Kms from the old port. The shimmering water
of the English Channel draws artists to this hilltop inn, said to be where
Impressionism was born in the 19th century. Much of the hotel has terra-cotta
floors, carved wood, and copper and faïence touches. Bedrooms which are formal
and comfortable, have fabric-covered walls. Some rooms contain exposed half-timbering
or ceiling beams; others offer canopy-covered beds. Most have antique or semi-antique
furnishings, and emanate a sense of old-fashioned graciousness. Bathrooms are
beautifully maintained, about half with tub and shower combinations. |
