Historically, Chateau de Varenne means the break between an old, poor and dying
world and a new one yet to be born.
Nowadays, Chateau de Varenne is an enchanted castle set within 3 hectares of
gardens, overlooking the charming village of Sauveterre, which is just a 10
minute drive from Avignon.
Built in 1738, the Chateau was then bought in the 19th century by Guillaume Puy,
“the Perfect Mayor” of Avignon according to Napoleon and then occupied by his
son in law, the Marquis of Cambis. The Chateau was later sold to the Prefect of
Gard before the First World War.
The rooms of the chateau have been re-decorated in a sophisticated Provencal
style using rustic furniture creating an elegant and comfortable atmosphere and
effortlessly combining the traditional with the conveniences of modern living.
There 13 rooms available, including one luxurious suites.
From the tower of the Chateau, one can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of
the Ventoux, Luberon and surrounding vineyards.
Finally, an enchanting, heritage protected, 400 year old Liban Cedar tree can be
found in the garden as well as a fountain with a natural water supply. The tree-shaded
terrace is the perfect place to relax or one can completely unwind by the
picturesque hotel swimming pool. |
