Château de Saint-Loup

Le Château de Saint-Loup is located in the most southern part of the Loire Valley in the region of Poitou-Charentes, France, between the cities of Parthenay and Thouars. The castle is a 4-hour drive from Paris.
This sumptuous moated chateau is a major landmark of Poitou. There the black Prince incarcerated the french King, John the Good, after the battle of Poitiers in 1356. Rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century by the Gouffier family, it is an outstanding example of French classical architecture. The Gouffiers were the marquis of Carabas who inspired Perrault for the tale Puss in boots.
The magnificent gardens are currently undergoing faithful restoration based on detailed plans dating from 1745.
Spend the night or sejourn on the site to experience the life of a great Stately Home!
Fourteen bedrooms have been entirely renovated and are located either in the medieval Keep (6) or in the main castle (8). Keep and castle can also be rented as self contained units with fully equipped kitchen, dining room and sitting room.
